    Open Rank Professor of Commerce - Real Estate (Finance Area)

    The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a full-time, open professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full), tenure-track faculty position in real estate. The position will commence with the Fall 2025 semester, and the faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in real estate, as well as engage as a member of the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate (www.commerce.virginia.edu/centers/crebe), which supports the University of Virginia’s growing pan-university real estate initiatives. Through the Center, the faculty member will have the strong support of McIntire and UVA alums, parents, friends in the real estate industry, and the Center’s executive director to gather resources crucial for expanding a world-class real estate program and reinforcing the School’s standing as one of the nation’s innovators in business education.

    The McIntire School is located in a state-of-the-art, academic complex on the Lawn in the heart of the University’s historic Central Grounds, designed by Thomas Jefferson. The growing Commerce Complex will include a newly constructed Shumway Hall, McIntire’s current home of Rouss & Robertson Halls, a reimagined Cobb Hall, and a host of inviting outdoor gathering spaces to be completed by Fall 2025. Charlottesville is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is consistently rated as one of the country's most desirable places to live. The area has abundant outdoor, cultural, and recreational amenities and outstanding healthcare and education systems.

    Qualifications

    A Ph.D. degree in finance, economics, or real estate-related disciplines is required. Previous experience as a faculty member at an AACSB-accredited institution, evidence of excellence in teaching real estate or related courses, and demonstrated real estate thought leadership are preferred. Significant experience in real estate investments or development is also preferred. The faculty member will be a member of the Finance Area within the McIntire School and have the opportunity to develop close working relationships with faculty in other schools across the University.

    To be considered for a tenure-track position with indefinite tenure, the candidate should have a strong research record publishing in top Finance and Economics outlets such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, the American Economic Review, etc.
