Position Description: The School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVa) seeks candidates for a tenure-ineligible research assistant professor position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The primary responsibilities for this position include research, scholarship, and service to the department, university, and professional community. The compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. As research faculty, the successful candidate will be expected to fully support their position and program through external funding and engagement in collaborative work with colleagues at UVA and beyond to expand their research portfolio. This position is contingent upon availability of funds.

Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Superconducting and Semiconductor Position

The candidate should have expertise in microfabrication (including an extensive background in thin film deposition and characterization), cryogenics, and submillimeter-wave device/circuit modeling, metrology and characterization. Experience with superconducting insulating superconducting (SIS) junctions, Traveling-Wave Kinetic Inductance Parametric amplifiers, and Schottky barrier diodes is desired. The successful candidate is expected to establish an innovative research program that builds upon existing strengths at the University of Virginia in superconducting devices and materials and terahertz technology. This includes engaging collaboratively with faculty and scientists at UVA and beyond, as well as generating proposals, promoting scholarship, engaging in service, and mentoring students to support a growing program. The successful candidate is also expected to engage in, and further, ongoing projects with The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC). The newly renovated Innovations in Fabrication (IFAB) facility and Far Infrared and Terahertz Laboratory (FIRTL) and the Nanoscale Materials Characterization Facility (NMCF) feature state-of-the-art experimental facilities to support this work and the successful candidate is anticipated to use and support these laboratories as a resource to grow their research effort.
