Job Duties

Do you love science? Are you someone who loves to engage with people and facilitate learning? Then join our amazing team of Part time Science Presenters.

Science Presenters deliver hands-on engaging STEM programs to the museum’s diverse visitors. Duties include:

  • Interacting with museum guests in the exhibitions - encouraging interactions through inquiry and play, answering questions and helping to ensure a positive guest experience
  • Facilitate STEM programs as scheduled. Experiences could include floor presentations, hands-on cart activities and stage presentations to both the general public and scheduled private programs, such as for field trips
  • Staffing the Museum’s Animal Lab and Eco Lab experiences, assisting in care of the Animals
  • Delivering cooking demonstrations in the Boost Kitchen
  • Leading presentations at Science On a Sphere
  • Staffing Camp Ins, Science after Dark and Science On Tap events
  • Working occasional Education Outreach events

Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12 month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested applicants must apply at http://jobs.virginia.gov/

Minimum Qualifications

Desirable candidates must be able to welcome guests to the Museum and provide a friendly, engaging professional atmosphere. They should possess excellent customer service skills and communication skills. Able to be genuinely friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing and truly enjoy educating others, especially families and children. Be able to work with little supervision, take direction and demonstrate unending patience. Must have excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills and be comfortable interacting with a diverse audience of varying ages from 0 - 100 in both one on one and group situations. Must be available to regularly work weekends, holidays and after hour events.

Additional Considerations

Background in STEM and/or prior experience delivering K-12 programming in informal settings is a plus. Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply!
