These roles are responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day functions that support the university’s physical and logistical needs. Staff in these positions work to ensure that facilities are well-maintained, operational processes are efficient, and UVA environments are welcoming and functional.

These roles are responsible for managing transportation services, including shuttles, parking facilities, and vehicle maintenance. Transportation staff ensure that students, staff, and visitors have safe, efficient, and reliable options for navigating the grounds and surrounding areas. Responsible for analyzing parking and transportation needs, enforcing parking rules and regulations, issuing parking permit and managing transportation fleet. Includes specialized roles related to air travel.

Individual contributors who provide support to an organization, often in direct service, operational, technical or administrative functions. Spends majority of time in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. Opportunities for progression outside this career stream are typically limited without additional education or significant training and experience.

Fully competent and productive individual contributor. Works under moderate supervision. Problems are typically of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. Makes minor adjustments to working methods. Communicates information that requires explanation or interpretation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: At least 8 months of prior work experience. Experience gained during part-time work as a student may be considered.

Licensure: Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Type A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements or a valid State of Virginia Driver's License and the ability to obtain the CDL with endorsements within the first 45 days of hire.

Must have a positive point balance via a good driving record on existing license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Safe operation of a transit bus requires sustained sitting, driving, pushing/pulling (steering wheel and various controls), repetitive motion, use of both hands, use of either hand, fine finger manipulation, and wrist movement. Safe operation also includes repetitive motion with both ankles/feet, with both possessing the strength and dexterity to fully depress the service brake and accelerator (right), and turn signal controls (left) present on the transit bus units within the Parking and Transportation fleet. Boarding/alighting the transit bus requires the ability to climb stairs (at least one step up/down). Successful operation of ADA Accessible equipment aboard the transit bus requires bending, lifting, and carrying. All of these physical requirements should be considered essential to the position. Work performed during special events and as part of servicing the equipment requires standing, traveling, and the potential for bending, lifting, and carrying.

The starting base rate for this role is $16.50 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
