Join SVCC as a Payroll Specialist — ensuring every detail adds up to employee trust and satisfaction.
The Payroll Specialist is a vital member of the Human Resources team, responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll. This role involves managing various payroll-related tasks, maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and providing exceptional support to employees regarding their payroll inquiries. The Payroll Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining employee satisfaction by ensuring that payroll is executed smoothly and efficiently.
The core responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all college employee classifications to include special pay types (Verify accuracy of contracts received; Submit payroll information to the Shared Services Center (SSC) to be keyed and processed by the established time-frames; Verify and enter payroll changes and updates; Work closely with the SSC on all payroll matters, including resolving discrepancies; Assist in payroll certification by providing appropriate documentation to the Business Office; Process tax forms and direct deposit forms as needed; Work closely with the Benefits Specialist to ensure appropriate deductions are properly processed; etc.)

Supports the Time, Leave & Benefits Specialist and serves as back-up (Supports the Time, Leave & Benefits Specialist by monitoring time and leave when necessary and ensuring time is approved by established deadlines; Works with the Benefits Specialist to ensure timely processing of new hire enrollments and benefit changes for current employees and coordinates these changes with payroll functions; Responsible for monthly Healthcare and VRS reconciliations; Serves as the back-up for the TLAM & Benefits Specialist as needed, etc.)

Other HR Responsibilities (Employment Verifications; Process Garnishments, Child Support, and Tax Liens; Asst HR Director, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in payroll administration or a similar role
- Knowledge of Agency, State and Federal regulations relating to payroll and human resources
- Thorough knowledge of human resource and payroll information systems
- Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
- Adept at managing tasks and balancing priorities
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office or comparable software suites
- Strong working knowledge of Google platforms (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, etc.)
- Must possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work with all levels of employees/administration and communicate to each using appropriate methods
- Ability to handle confidential information, use professional discretion, and exercise ethical conduct
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with others
- Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and procedures
Additional Considerations:
- Experience in PeopleSoft
- Training, education, and experience, preferably in payroll/human resources
- Community college payroll experience
- Knowledge of the state’s payroll system, Cardinal
