Job Duties

This instructional position provides effective Career and Technical Education instruction in the plumbing trade. This position assists assigned students in completing the required competencies for the plumbing trade.

The selected candidate will demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure the lab is operated in compliance with all aspects of safety management; and maintain accurate and current student records for assigned students.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess working knowledge of all phases of plumbing trade area to include materials, tools and machines. Considerable knowledge of the trade area through training and experience. Demonstrated ability to maintain inventory, logbooks, and other documentation as policy directs. Ability to work with adult offenders in a classroom/lab environment. Must be eligible for or possess industry certification and/or a recognized professional trade license in the plumbing trade. Must be eligible for or possess a Virginia Trade and Industrial Teaching Certificate. Must be eligible for or possess an endorsement in the trade area (plumbing).
Please note you are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for your continued employment in this position.
If you do not currently hold a teacher's license from the Department of Education (DOE) you must submit all documentation for your provisional teacher's license to the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of employment. If you are not granted a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period based on your hire date (as mentioned in paragraph #1), you will not be eligible for continued employment in this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer teaching experience in an educational environment, alternative school setting, correctional education setting, or state facility. Prefer experience working in a correctional facility specializing in adult education.
