Job Duties
Position safely and efficiently operates, monitors and maintains three coal-fired steam boilers as well as all related support equipment according to all applicable Federal, State, and local Regulations for all boilers. Assists in the maintenance of steam lines, pumps, steam traps, and all ancillary equipment. Supervises the work of offenders performing routine daily tasks and correct maintenance procedures and plant operations. Provides support, training, and guidance under re-entry programs for returning citizens. Maintains recordkeeping as required in files and TMS on all repairs and planned maintenance of the boilers and other related equipment. Provides continuous steam flow to the Institution in a safe and reliable manner. Provides assistance and guidance to the facility regarding steam flow and associated lines. Provides assistance when necessary in the identification of leaks and other issues that affect water/steam flow and may result in excessive fuel use or unsafe working or living conditions. Serves as essential personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Virginia Driver's License. Experience working with hand tools, electrical and pneumatic power tools and equipment. The demonstrated ability to read and follow written procedures and prioritize work assignments. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally, electronically and in writing. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze and repair equipment as necessary. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply operating procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments with minimal guidance from supervisor or others. Experience with Microsoft office Suite.
Additional Considerations
Training and experience in Boiler operation, maintenance, and repair. State certified Boiler Operator License. General maintenance experience. Plumbing and electrical experience. Word, Excel program experience. Working knowledge of hot water boiler operation, water treatment chemistry, and all associated auxiliary equipment preferred. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze and repair equipment as necessary. Be able to use Time & Attendance software/programs. Heavy equipment operation.
