The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Piedmont Regional Office is seeking a qualified candidate to manage all aspects of the Piedmont Regional Office VPDES and VPA permitting program, Section 303(d) & 305(b) reporting, water quality and supply planning, Surface Water Management Area designation, etc., in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and agency guidance; provide leadership, direction, and guidance to staff; actively solve problems; ensure compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures; develop program budget; and allocate staff resources, funds, and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal water environmental statutes, regulations and policies related to VPDES and VPA permitting, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, and hydrogeology.
Experience in program/project management and personnel supervision.
Ability to analyze and solve complex problems; demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to lead and develop others; ability to negotiate and collaborate with others with different viewpoints.
Demonstrated knowledge of DEQ Leadership and Management Competencies: demonstrates self-awareness, develops others, thinks strategically, and cultivates work relationships; and understands the business, achieves results, communicates proficiently, and applies technical skills.

A combination of education, training, or experience with environmental engineering or environmental science
