Job Duties
The Virginia State Bar (VSB) seeks a self-motivated, purpose-driven individual to manage and support the VSB Clients’ Protection Fund (CPF), which is designed to reimburse clients who have suffered a financial loss because of the dishonest conduct of an attorney practicing law in Virginia. This is a unique opportunity for a skilled legal or administrative professional to make a direct impact on an important public service program. In this role, the administrator will:
• serve as the initial point of contact for all CPF inquiries
• manage CPF case records from receipt of petition to case closing
• draft and prepare correspondence and reports
• coordinate payment of approved claims and collections with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General and Supreme Court of Virginia
• work closely with CPF Counsel to analyze petitions and assist CPF Board members in investigating the petitions
• review, maintain and recommend improvements to CPF policies, procedures, forms and training materials
• serve as the liaison to the CPF Board and coordinate meeting logistics, Virginia Freedom of Information Act notices, dockets, materials, and records
• support public and VSB member education efforts related to CPF, including website updates, publications and outreach initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have experience working in a legal environment and demonstrate the ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, solve problems and take initiative. He/she will be detailed oriented, proficient with computer applications and databases, analytical and organized. Strong customer service and communication skills are also necessary to communicate effectively with VSB leadership, members, other legal professionals and the public. This position also requires occasional travel and successful completion of a criminal background check.
