About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a wage Program Support Technician Senior in our Office of Legal Affairs at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will analyze and process documents in response to Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in accordance with Virginia law and applying statutorily appropriate redactions through NextRequest; coordinate and organize FOIA Requests, as instructed; assist with research, analyzing and/or evaluating data in response to FOIA requests, and assists the FOIA specialist with monitoring all sources for FOIA requests; identify information exempt from release in accordance with the applicable policy, statutes and regulations ensuring the application of the appropriate exemptions to the information; apply appropriate redactions to sensitive information within records located in response to FOIA requests based on exemptions under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act or Virginia Code; coordinate and organize new requests through NextRequest and provide timely updates to the FOIA Supervisor; prepare correspondence, files, and prepares responses and invoices; and address Discovery, Subpoena Duces Tecum (SDT), and government requests.

Minimum Qualifications

•Working knowledge of office procedures and practices.
•Skill in the use of computers and using Microsoft Office applications.
•To enter, delete, retrieve, manipulate, and correct information in automated databases or electronic records; to analyze records/documents; to interpret and follow oral and written instructions in performing tasks; to draft correspondence and documents; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; to work independently and as member of a team; and to maintain harmonious working relationships with internal and external customers.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

•Paralegal certificate preferred.
•Law office experience preferred.
•Criminal Justice experience preferred.
•Secretarial experience preferred.
•FOIA experience in a government environment preferred. •Preferred experience performing initial document reviews and applying appropriate redactions to sensitive information within records located in response to FOIA requests.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand State policies and procedures related to document redaction under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or Virginia Code; and to redact sensitive information within records based on FOIA exemptions or Virginia Code preferred.
