The mission of the VCU Police department is to provide a safe and secure learning, living and working environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Summary:

To manage the VCUPD fleet and assist the Property & Evidence Manager with the day-to-day operations of receiving, storing, maintaining, controlling, releasing and/or disposing of property, evidence or other items turned in to the VCU Police Property Office; maintaining uniform inventory and coordinating sworn equipment purchases with vendors.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of a police-related office environment and working effectively within a police environment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Must pass a polygraph and drug test.
  • Must have never been convicted of a felony, or crimes involving moral turpitude or domestic violence.
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of projects and to work independently.
  • Ability to fit into a team environment as characterized by shared accountabilities.
  • Excellent ability to understand and adhere to laws and practices governing the receipt, storage and release of evidentiary items.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with police-related automated systems and equipment is required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels within and outside the university.
  • Must pass a required background check.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of fleet management helpful.
  • Ability to manage police-related records and maintain inventories of department equipment.
