Job Description:
In coordination with the Associate Director of College Recreation and Intramurals, the Recreation Leader will be responsible for assisting with coordinating and facilitating recreational activities within our organization. This role involves planning, organizing, and executing various recreational programs to promote physical activity, social engagement, and wellness among our community members. Additionally, this position will assist with administering the development and management of our outdoor recreation initiatives.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Respond to inquiries from college and community members about student engagement opportunities, catering to students, staff, parents, public agencies, etc.
  • Oversee and lead outdoor activities and services integral to the student experience.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment within recreation and wellness facilities.
  • Ensure all equipment is in working order and promptly report any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Assist with facility opening and closing procedures, including security checks and equipment setup.
  • Assist with first-year experience programming, co-curricular programs, and organizing recreational and wellness awareness activities.
  • Organize and manage intramural sports leagues and tournaments.
  • Facilitate team registration, scheduling, and coordination of games.
  • Ensure fair play, sportsmanship, and adherence to rules and regulations.
  • Advocates for inclusivity and equity by implementing best practices in student engagement.
  • Collaborates with different student services and academic divisions to develop specialized programs for the area.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, workshops, and trainings and may serve as the Student Life representative.
  • Participant Engagement-Provide exceptional customer service to participants, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring that all participants feel valued and respected.
  • Safety and Compliance-Enforce safety rules and guidelines to ensure the well-being of all participants. Stay informed about and adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required KSAs:
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent customer service and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and college personnel including administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multitask, maintain a level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience working in an academic environment that involves program planning and implementation within a set budget.
  • Experience working on a PC using Microsoft Office and other computer applications (Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and internet to complete research)
  • Experience working with a diverse population and ability to relate to students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in a customer service environment.

  • Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.
  • Experience managing a college-wide outdoor recreation program, including making sure everything follows the rules, keeping track of rosters, using technology for sign-ups and communication, and managing day-to-day operations.
