    Job Duties

    Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

    Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is currently recruiting a Registered Nurse to utilize knowledge base and experience to provide age-specific quality nursing care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing care daily as well as evaluate, supervise, document and provide guidance in performance of staff.
    Flexible shifts are available including evenings, nights and weekends; these shifts are also eligible for shift differential.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to Successfully Perform the Job Duties:
    Considerable knowledge of professional nursing principles and practices, medication indications, actions, reactions and interactions and infection control.
    Considerable skills in application of professional nursing techniques and devices used in a wide range of procedures.
    Demonstrated ability to apply the principles, practices and procedures of professional nursing.
    Ability to recognize potential patient problems, make nursing assessments, and observe, record and evaluate patients’ response to treatment.
    Communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required:
    Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Virginia
    Experience in nursing at the professional level
    Experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and/or nursing care of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

    Additional Considerations

    Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing preferred.

    DBHDS facilities are no longer required to ensure that all staff members are vaccinated against COVID-19.
