Up to a $25,000 Bonus for Registered Nurses that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years. • $15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required. • An additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who are hired after November 9th, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written agreement.
Above bouses are available to Registered Nurse I that are new to DBHDS or have not worked for at least one year for Department of Behavior Health Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Western State Hospital is seeking fresh graduates as an RN I for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Registered Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shift per week and every other weekend.

We are waiting for the Occupancy certificate for two new units, which will add 56 beds to our capacity.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic nursing standards and fundamentals. - Current, Virginia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted. - Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders and cultural needs of the psychiatric patient. - Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. - Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education, work experience may substitute for education.
