Job Description
The Vlaisavljevich Lab (https://ultrasound-lab.beam.vt.edu) is looking for a part-time research assistant to explore the use of focused ultrasound (FUS) for biospecimen processing and biomolecule release. We are seeking motivated, creative individuals who are interested in conducting hands-on experiments to evaluate and optimize the performance of this technology, including studies on tissue ablation, quantification and optimization of biomolecule release, and assessment of biomolecule yield and quality. The role also involves performing molecular assays such as PCR and gel electrophoresis to verify biomolecule integrity and validate the performance of the focused ultrasound process. This position is ideal for motivated, detail-oriented individuals interested in applying focused ultrasound to advance molecular biology workflows and contribute to the development of innovative sample preparation technologies.

-Strong teamwork and communication skills to ensure safety and coordination in a collaborative research environment
-Ability to plan and conduct experiments independently or as part of a small interdisciplinary team
-Strong attention to detail in data collection, record-keeping, and documentation of experimental procedures
-Willingness to learn new laboratory and technical skills across molecular biology, acoustics, and instrumentation development
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience using MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages for operation of FUS systems
-Experience developing or operating prototype instrumentation, particularly systems involving high-voltage electronics, acoustic devices, or fluidic systems
