The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a post-doctoral research associate position to work on SBS and MOLLER projects at Jefferson Lab. The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Nilanga Liyanage which has a large program to develop Micro Pattern Gas Detector (MPGD) based particle tracking systems for ongoing and future experiments at Jefferson lab and at the proposed Electron Ion Collider (EIC). We are currently playing leading roles on the SBS and MOLLER projects, where we are responsible for the fabrication, installation, and operation of the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detector based trackers. The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to this GEM program and to physics analysis of SBS and MOLLER projects.
QUALIFCATION REQUIRMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD degree in experimental nuclear physics or in experimental high energy physics. Experience with GEM detector development and data acquisition systems will be considered useful skills when considering candidates.
