The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development seeks to hire a Research Scientist within Youth-Nex , the Center to Promote Effective Youth Development to collaborate on projects through the Preventive Interventions Team: Collaborative Research on Engagement and Wellbeing lab. Youth-Nex is a dynamic research center committed to expanding and applying the science of positive youth development to address fundamental challenges facing societies around the world.
Youth-Nex project teams focus on collecting and storing large datasets, and the incumbent will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigators to analyze data, write reports/manuscripts/other products, and to disseminate findings. Other duties may include:
Data analysis and scientific writing skills, with particular expertise in qualitative methods
Knowledge of qualitative study design and analytic methods as well as research literature on child and adolescent development and behavioral health preventive interventions implemented in schools; Ability to review and synthesize relevant literature.
Train and supervise data collectors and project staff to implement research design, data management practices, and analytic techniques: In-depth understanding of randomized controlled designs in school settings; Knowledge of measures used in education and developmental research; Supervision of project staff.
Will work with colleagues to pursue external funding opportunities.
Ability to communicate findings in publications and presentations.

Minimum Requirements Education: Doctoral degree
Preferred Requirements
Education: An earned Ph.D. in a research-oriented Education, Psychology, Public Health, Human Development, Research, Statistics, and Evaluation, or a related, research-focused field is preferred by the start date of the position.
Experience:
Prior experience conducting analyses for, writing, and submitting peer-reviewed journal articles as a first author is preferred.
Prior experience developing content and contributing to the submission of federal or private grant proposals is preferred.
At least three years of postdoctoral experience is preferred.
The ideal candidate is an early career researcher with a track record of publishing as a first author in scholarly peer-reviewed journals with of focus on school-based preventive interventions and conducting advanced quantitative statistical analyses.
Expertise in mixed methods and qualitative methods is preferred.
Compensation:
$65,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience and technical expertise, plus generous UVA benefits .
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
