Under the general direction of the Human Resources Learning and Development Manager, the Retail Trainer provides appropriate, high quality and cost beneficial training and development services to Retail Operations/Virginia ABC in order to enhance and develop employee skills and knowledge to meet the business goals of the Authority.
Facilitation of learning/development for in-store trainers and other classified retail employees:
Partner with retail leadership (zone, regional, store managers and in-store trainers) to provide operations training to new and existing classified employees.
Implement professional development initiatives when appropriate as business needs require.
Work with district managers (DMs) and in-store trainers (ISTs) to develop sales effectiveness techniques and product knowledge training.
Conduct on-the-job product knowledge and customer experience training for new hires and/or newly promoted employees.
Partner with DMs/sales managers (SMs) in the development and deployment of learning and development strategies including new and re-launched programs.
Curriculum Planning and Analysis
Present and implement initiatives for all levels of retail store operations.
Coach ISTs on best practices and proven methods to upsell products and on customer care.
Work with Retail Operations leaders to identify organizational learning needs.
Deliver quality documentation and curriculum recommendations including those with aggressive timelines.
Evaluate the Effectiveness of the learning and initiatives
Conduct post-training follow-up assessments to evaluate the efficiency of training and modify as required.
Report to the Learning and Development Manager any performance issues observed for recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide up to 70% of the time. All travel will originate from Virginia ABC Authority Headquarters, Mechanicsville, VA.
Professional experience in the training or adult education field.
Individual contributors delivering, improving and managing the design and implementation of projects and processes.
Knowledge of on-the-job/one-on-one instructional methodologies and processes for effective field training and project management methods for trainers
Platform skills; visual, oral and written communication skills; questioning and listening skills, timely delivery of services, training development skills, excellent time management skills. Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
Research subject matter; leadership skills to produce results and make decisions, to plan and execute, effectively communicate results, work independently.
Utilize a variety of methods, including but not limited to, in-person, telephone consultations, webinar, video and other contemporary methods to deliver training, coach and provide support across retail operations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Develop keen business acumen of Virginia ABC Retail Operations
Demonstrate strong listening, interpersonal, written and communication skills
Prioritize and direct multiple activities and IST training program plans
Develop and maintain effective cross-functional relationships
Demonstrated computer proficiency (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint,)
Ability to learn retail technical applications quickly (i.e. POS system)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
Ability manage multiple projects/tasks and effectively meet deadlines
Flexibility to work across multiple job sites
Maintain a fast work pace with strong time management/organizational skills
Lead by example to exemplify professionalism and a high performance culture
Maintain confidentiality when collaborating with leadership regarding employee issues
Represent Virginia ABC values, mission and professionalism at all times
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in adult education or a related field or relevant experience
Certification (ATD) in Leadership Programs
