Job Duties
This position reports directly to the Chief of Security for supervision and the operation of Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation and Piedmont Geriatric Hospital. This position provides leadership and direction to Security Officers and the Emergency Response Team ensuring all policies and procedures are applied and followed. They will serve as one of the Primary responders in all emergency situations involving the safety and security of the Nottoway Campus.
This position serves as one of the agency’s criminal and internal affairs Investigators. The investigator will be responsible for investigating resident criminal offenses; personnel related matters involving fraternization with residents; serve as a liaison with the Nottoway County Commonwealth’s Attorney, local, and state law enforcement agencies; and testify at hearings and court proceedings. In addition, this position also conducts investigations for PGH and performs orientation and in-service training for all VCBR employees.
This position will use various types of equipment; develops, secures, and packages physical evidence for further evaluation and comparison; and prepare detailed reports on the observations and activities of residents and staff for further investigation by other department, local, and state personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
• Required knowledge of: security management practices, procedures, and programs; laws, regulations, codes, policies relating to security.
• Ability to: administer policies and procedures for the proper operation of a secured facility; to enforce regulations; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others; perform confidential administrative and facility activities; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
• Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member, interacts with multiple disciplines, and performs supervisory functions.
• Thorough knowledge of electronic surveillance and detection systems and access control systems and more.
• Oversees routine procedures and emergency response planning.
• Maintains competency in human rights regulations.
• Must be able to perform Physical task to include restraining, secluding, and controlling combative residents
• Comprehensive knowledge of state, federal, local laws, and department rules and regulations.
• Ability to: use good judgment, interact with other professionals from various disciplines, perform multiple tasks in a fast pace environment and to prioritize work assignments; requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient in written and oral communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office application.
• Previous work experience in investigations.
• Ability to obtain DJCS certification for Special Conservator of the Peace.
