General Description:
Under the direction and supervision of the Dean of Nursing and Simulation Center Manager, the individual will provide technical support for all simulation operations. Technician is primarily responsible for integrating, maintaining and operating the computer and audio/video (A/V) technology including the mannequin and surrounding simulation lab equipment. This position supports Inter-Professional Education (IPE), immersive simulation experiences, and other scheduled patient simulation learning activities.
Duties and Tasks:

Technician is primarily responsible for integrating, maintaining and operating the computer and audio/video (A/V) technology including the mannequin and surrounding simulation lab equipment. This position supports Inter-Professional Education (IPE), immersive simulation experiences, and other scheduled patient simulation learning activities.
Duties and Tasks:
- Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions.
- Participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facilities to meet course needs.
- Understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
- Responsible for maintenance and repair of computerized mannequins (software and hardware).
- Integration of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) and electronic documentation of patient care into the simulated experiences (as opposed to paper documentation)
- Provide communication and feedback to the Manager on facility, technology, equipment operational and other needs identified for overall maintenance and program functioning.
- Assist with other special projects or initiatives as needed.
- Collect data to support research and commercial projects as appropriate.
- Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and clients of the Simulation Center.
- Engage in available opportunities to share information and best practices externally (e.g., as presenter or panelist at industry conferences and events), develop and maintain relationships with simulation specialists to engage in collaborative problem solving and innovation.
- Identify and participate in coordination of facility and operational improvement.
- Actively participate in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.
- Assist with or lead other special projects or initiatives as needed.
- Utilizing and maintaining medical equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, standard defibrillators, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs.)
- Preparing and applying moulage – simulated injuries, wounds, bruising – to standardized patients and simulators
KSAs:
- Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
- Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated and ability to work effectively in team environment.
- Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environment.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge in medical lab procedures.
- Knowledge of the features and capabilities of basic multimedia equipment, including recording equipment and operating video and camcorders.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to independently move equipment (less than 25 lbs.) and move manikins (less than 50 lbs.) with the assistance of others.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends on as needed basis.
Minimum Work Experience:
- Experience in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in a medical or clinical simulation lab setting.
- Experience in lab equipment maintenance.
- Experience with basic inventory and material storage.
- Experience with record keeping procedures
- Experience providing technical support to stakeholders.
