Founded in 1970, SVCC is one of 23 institutions within the Virginia Community College System. We are a comprehensive, public, two-year college serving approximately 183,000 residents across the counties of Brunswick, Charlotte, Cumberland, Greensville, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Prince Edward, and parts of Buckingham and Halifax, as well as the city of Emporia. Our service region—the largest in the state—covers roughly 4,200 square miles. Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a Software Applications Support Manager. The successful candidate will serve as the college’s Software Applications Support Manager. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer. Thre work Location is either Keysville, VA / Alberta, VA -home campus with consideration of the chosen candidate's preference
Core Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership to staff through clear expectations, ongoing feedback, skills development, and performance evaluations in accordance with established planning systems and deadlines
Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace
Provide backup to support staff as needed
Represent SVCC in VCCS meetings, workgroups, and teleconferences; disseminate relevant information to college stakeholders.
Lead application support staff and coordinate interdepartmental collaboration to ensure smooth and efficient use of enterprise systems
Develop business processes, verify outcome, and document
Provide functional support to Admissions and Records Office
Input and maintain values of semester and/or annual table maintenance upkeep in SIS by input other table setup as needed; verify setup, test and document; run necessary processes to close out semester in SIS; run mass term activation and discontinuation before registration begins; and responsible for NSC reporting.
Provide functional support to Workforce Development Office by Input calendars and provide business process guidance. Responsible for assisting with troubleshooting any problems that may arise on the academic network, assisting with applying patches and/or upgrades to server(s) in the academic environment, assisting in the preparation, and assisting with evaluating the procedural manuals
Ensure data integrity through testing, queries, and reporting. Develop and modify reports using SQL, SAS, SQR, and BI Publisher. Support Communication Generation processes including letters, checklists, and HPT messages
Participate in testing of patches and fixes that are released
Develop queries and reports to end user specifications by using SQL, SAS, SQR, PeopleSoft Query and BI Publisher. Modify current SQR reports if needed
Create Communication Generation Letters, Checklists, Comments, and the HPT Message Center
Act as customer liaison for the college
Coordinate and deliver end-user training and functional support for college-wide software applications
Manage and provide Tier I/II help desk support for Enterprise Applications. Assist students and staff with troubleshooting and access issues across platforms such as SIS, HRMS, AIS, Navigate, and others
Maintain pages on college’s website for MySVCC helpdesk and other required pages
Provide workarounds for end users until permanent solutions can be found
Manage multiple EMPLIDs using VCCS tools, coordinate with partner colleges for resolution, and actively participate in the statewide EMPLID workgroup
Serve as security officer for SVCC and VCCS applications. Manage user access, document security roles, perform scheduled audits, and coordinate with eVA and system administrators as needed
Responsible for legal compliance, system performance, long-range planning, process documentation, internal auditing, and budgeting
Support enterprise application maintenance, including software upgrades, patches, and testing. Collaborate with network staff and stay updated on VCCS requirements
Ensures data integrity and security by coordinating tests and running reports
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires extensive working knowledge of application analysis and programming techniques
Knowledge of high-level programming languages, databases, and development tools (especially in SQL, and PeopleSoft People Tools)
Advanced knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, and desktop computer applications including Microsoft and Google product suites and VCCS Enterprise Applications
Ability to analyze complex business processes, interpret users' needs, and evaluate alternative solutions
Ability to understand program coding and logically apply it
Ability to develop complex computer applications to meet functional requirements of business processes (preferably in PeopleSoft student administration)
Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex programs quickly
Ability to handle multiple, complex programs simultaneously while meeting day-to-day needs and periodic deadlines
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Ability to provide periodic updates and progress reports to supervisor in written and oral formats for yourself and subordinates assigned who report to you
Ability to provide leadership and training to less experienced personnel
Ability to communicate effectively at a technical and also end-user level both orally and in writing
Ability to develop procedures and written documentation for complex information systems
Knowledge of LANs and TCP/IP
Requires considerable experience and training in working with Enterprise software and cloud solutions
Requires experience in supervision and the ability to train staff
Additional Considerations:
Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field
Completion of post-secondary coursework in computer science, information management or a related discipline is highly preferred.
Career Readiness Certificate
Knowledge of business processes and administrative functions in a large educational environment preferred
Considerable Community College work experience preferred
