Position Summary:

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a student-centered professional to support the success of student participation in grant-funded initiatives. This position focuses on coordinating and delivering quality academic and career programming, including assisting teaching a section of Univ 191, advising student organizations, and leading culturally relevant workshops that enhance student engagement and post-graduation outcomes. This role also involves recruitment and outreach across campus, building relationships with faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as supporting data collection and evaluation to ensure alignment with grant objectives.

Core Responsibilities:

Programming, teaching, and advising (50%):

Coordinate and execute workshops/events for program participants to support and enhance grant objectives

Support the facilitation of one semester-long UNIV 191 course for engaged students during the designated academic term. Note: the Special Programs Coordinator will not the be instructor of record for the course

Lead/assist in planning and facilitating academic-year programming to support participants’ engagement with post-graduate and career planning

Create and support career- and outcome-focused programming for participants (i.e. culturally relevant career workshops, intercultural professional academy, internship workshops, LinkedIn workshops, etiquette diners)

Assist with advising and leadership for relevant student organizations and student involvement initiatives

Facilitate connection with VCU programs and services to enhance post-graduation outcomes

Meet with students one-on-one to support student success and outcomes

Recruitment and promotion (30%):

Engage in campus-wide recruitment and enrollment activities (i.e. Open House/Preview Days, resource fairs, orientation)

Build and nurture relationships with VCU faculty, staff, and alumni to support grant initiatives

Promote activities externally, including via social media, institutional media, and appropriate websites

Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance program offerings.

Data, evaluation, and technology (15%)

Provide support in compiling required data and reporting for SCHEV

Conduct ongoing evaluations of program offerings to assess student engagement and program effectiveness

Maintain accurate records of student interactions and programs in appropriate student information systems

Additional responsibilities duties as assigned (5%):

Assist in the supervising work-study students

Complete other duties as assigned
