VCU Athletics is seeking Interns for our Student Support Services area.

Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Student-Athlete Development Intern will assist with all aspects of the student-athlete development program. Working closely with the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator and Student-Athlete Support Services Staff, the Student-Athlete Development Intern will assist in the development and daily operations related to student-athlete career development, leadership development, community engagement, and personal development. This position requires some evening and weekend hours.

Student-Athlete Development/Event Planning

Assist in the daily operations related to student-athlete career development, leadership development, community engagement, personal development, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
Assist with programming related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion including the Black Athlete Sister Circle, MENtality Matters, DEI Committee, and SAAC Diversity Week.
The individual will collaborate with different parts of the VCU Athletic Department and Campus departments including; VCU Student-Athlete Support Services, VCU Athletics Compliance, VCU Career Center, VCU Office of Multicultural Affairs
Assist the Student-Athlete Development Staff with the Rodney Awards Banquet, Student-Athlete Kick-Off, It’s on Us Campaign, Academic Achievement Celebrations, Student-Athlete Graduation, and other events as assigned.
Administrative Duties

Provide administrative support for the VCU Student-Athlete Development office and the office of Student-Athlete Support Services
Assist with marketing content for VCU SASS and its social media outlets, community outreach programs, Student-Athlete Committee (SAAC), and RAMS Leadership Academy
Assist in the tracking of attendance at programming and community engagement events.
Oversee Student-Athlete of the Month process and nominations
Update all bulletin boards in computer lab and hallways as needed
Observe FERPA policies without appearing unhelpful and referring student-athletes to appropriate resources in a way that encourages them to follow through..
Through collaboration with the Director of Student-Athlete Development, produces an annual report, research and evaluates student athlete development programs as it relates to student-athlete development, life skills, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree and progress towards a Master’s Degree
Experience working in Student-Athlete Support Services;
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
General knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; and
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

An advanced degree or training & experience equivalent to an advanced degree;
Personal student-athlete collegiate experience;
Multilingual skills; and
Experience working with student-athletes at a large, diverse, urban, NCAA Division l university.
