Design Learning Programs That Train Approximately 2,000 Employees

Build the Learning & Development Resources That Build Careers

Ever wondered how large organizations train their workforce? You're about to find out—by collaborating to create professional development materials yourself. We need two interns to develop and enhance learning resources for DMV's Professional Development and Management Development programs.

The Opportunity

The Virginia DMV is upgrading its employee development programs, and you'll be part of the team creating the materials that teach leadership, professional skills, and technical skills to employees across the agency. This isn't just formatting PowerPoints—it's instructional design work that shapes how people learn.

The Project: Organizational Development

Create facilitator guides, learning materials, and instructional resources for agency-wide training programs.

You'll work on two major development programs (Professional Development Program and Management Development Program) while gaining hands-on experience with instructional design tools and learning technologies.

What You'll Create:

Facilitator Guides:

  • Develop complete facilitator guides for PDP and MDP courses

  • Align materials with program objectives and instructional design best practices

  • Create instructor-facing resources that make training delivery seamless

Learning Materials:

  • Update and polish slide decks for professional development courses

  • Redesign participant guides with consistent branding and engaging content

  • Create clear visuals that enhance learning comprehension

Instructional Tools:

  • Design EZ Guides and Job Aides using current instructional design principles

  • Improve usability and learner experience

  • Build reference materials employees can actually use

Digital Resource Management:

  • Organize Organizational Development resource library

  • Update and refresh OD SharePoint site

  • Create logical categorization and streamlined access to materials

Your Deliverables:

  • Completed facilitator guides for multiple courses

  • Professionally designed slide decks and participant materials

  • Enhanced instructional tools (job aides, quick reference guides)

  • Organized digital resource library

  • Updated SharePoint site with improved accessibility

What You'll Learn:

Technical Skills:

  • Adobe Captivate (eLearning development tool—highly marketable)

  • Instructional design principles and best practices

  • Learning management systems and digital resources

  • Visual design for educational content

  • SharePoint site management

Professional Skills:

  • How adults learn in organizational settings

  • Content development and project management

  • Collaboration across organizational teams

  • Creating materials that work for diverse audiences

Career Applications: These skills transfer directly to careers in corporate training, education technology, curriculum development, learning and development (L&D), and organizational development—fields with strong job markets and growth potential.

Why This Experience Matters:

Every organization needs people who can design effective learning and development for the workforce. Whether you're interested in corporate L&D, educational technology, human resources, or organizational development, this hands-on experience with real training programs (not hypothetical projects) sets you apart. Plus, you'll learn Adobe Captivate, which is an industry-standard tool for eLearning.

Resume Translation: "Designed instructional materials and eLearning resources for agency-wide professional development programs serving approximately 2,000 employees"
