The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, seek candidates to apply for the Summer Research Assistant position.

Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Dean’s office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 2,000 undergraduate and 450 graduate students in several degree programs supported by more than 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees. Position Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day activities required to support the research goals of the Statistical Signal Processing Laboratory. Specifically, duties include:

-Experimental design development, method development, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation

-Execute prescribed tasks as outlined by supervisor in a timely and organized manner

-Assist research personnel with experiments and analysis

-Compile results of experiments and regularly report to supervisor

-Carry out other research-related duties as needed

-Part-time, non-benefited position limited to 28 hours per week

Required Qualifications:

-Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field

-Computer programming skills in Matlab and Python

-Ability to work in diverse and dynamic environment

- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an employee at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience with machine learning

-Computer programming skills in C

-Courses in signal processing and communications

-Familiarity with the research process and principles of research design

-Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

-English proficiency (written and oral)

-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills

-Ability to present and articulate complex concepts orally
