Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant

The Department of Chemical and Life Science Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, seek candidates to apply for the Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant position.

Position Responsibilities:

The Undergraduate Research Associate will be responsible for the day-to-day activities required to support the research goals of the Ferri laboratory. Specifically, duties include:

- Execute prescribed tasks as outlined by supervisor in a timely and organized manner

- Assist research personnel with experiments and analysis

- Compile results of experiments and regularly report to supervisor

- Carry out other research-related duties as needed

- Perform required activities as outlined by the REU program, including presenting a final poster of the summer program activities

- Part-time, non-benefited position limited to 28 hours per week

Required Qualifications:

- Pursuing a degree in chemical and life science engineering or related field

- Ability to work in a dynamic environment

- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Proficiency in common coding programs, such as Python

- Interest in gaining wet lab experience

- Familiarity with the research process and principles of research design

- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

- English proficiency (written and oral)

- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills

- Ability to present and articulate complex concepts orally
