About the Mary and Frances Youth Center: The Mary and Frances Youth Center (MFYC) on the VCU campus, opened its doors in 2007 and offers two private tennis courts and classrooms designed for youth programming and youth centered training. Lobs & Lessons, operating out of the MFYC, is an afterschool and summer enrichment program for elementary and middle school age youth that focuses on character development, future orientation and the sport of tennis.
Job Responsibilities: - Work with assistant director to develop on court tennis instruction and physical activities for participants, which includes youth and adult lessons. - Provide tennis lessons for small group, private or semi-private. - Maintain tennis equipment; set-up and break down equipment for programming - Support assistant director in recruiting tennis volunteers and work with them on the court. - Support volunteer and staff trainings related to tennis. - Lead all tennis activities and work with tennis volunteers. - Act as a mentor and work directly with the children one-on-one and in small and large group settings. - Assist staff with planning and implementing the life skill curriculum on and off the court, integrating the life skills on the court. - Conduct pre- and post tennis skill assessments for all programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be 18 or older
Preferred Qualifications:
- Played tennis in high school; college experience preferred. - Previous experience and desire to work with children; afterschool and summer programming a plus. - PTR or USPTA certification a plus
