Job Duties

The mission of the Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is to employ and develop Virginians who are Blind, Visually Impaired or Deaf Blind to achieve their desired level of employment through the manufacture and delivery of quality products and services.

VIB is seeking a VIB Retail Manager I - Pentagon BSC to be responsible for the implementation of the goals and objectives of VIB by promoting efficiency of supply store operations.

  • This position reports directly to the Regional Manager.
  • This position is responsible for supervision, staffing, planning, inventory management, promotion of stores, and operational efficiency of the location.
  • Empowers blind and visually impaired individuals in achieving their maximum level of gainful employment and career development. 
  • Provide excellent customer service and retail opportunities.
  • Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge/Experience:

• Supervisory experience
• Retail operations experience
• Customer service experience

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to supervise people and use time effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workforce; skill in analyzing, problem solving and exercising good judgment in critical decision making.
  • Ability to interpret and apply AbilityOne, Federal, and State policies.
  • Abilities related to working in a retail environment to include customer service, merchandising, inventory control, Federal Base Supply Store customer requirements, Point of Sale system operation and acceptable sources for replenishment and to work to increase sales at stores while reducing operating expenses.
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and agency personnel.
  • Good computer skills including Windows applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent Customer Service and problem-solving skills.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience working in a military environment. 
  • Experience working in a Federal Government environment.

Special Instructions:

  • Employment is contingent upon the selected candidate being able to pass a background check required for access to the Base.
  • The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment (Va. Code § 2.2-3114.
