Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is currently hiring a Violence Intervention Manager. This position develops, implements, and monitors gang and violence intervention program planning for reduced recidivism and improved intervention services within the community and juvenile residential settings, and ensures appropriate allocation of services and personnel in support of program objectives.

Please note this position will work outside normal business hours, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system; case management guidelines, and juvenile justice program development.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience directly supervising youth on supervision status, at risk, and delinquent, extensive history working with service providers, alternative placements, and detention center staff.
  • Considerable background with gang intervention or gun violence programming.
  • Ability to develop and plan policies, standards, regulations, legislation, goals, and strategies; to interpret data, policies and procedures and make recommendations related to management and operational issues and resource deployment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently gather and interpret data, draw conclusions, and implement solutions; clearly present information in written and verbal formats; manage multiple tasks and projects; work independently.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft and other computer software including spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation packages.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff from various levels of agency operations.
  • Extensive and progressively responsible supervisory, administrative, and managerial experience in the juvenile justice field.
  • Considerable experience in community programs for juveniles.

Additional Considerations

  • Training and/or equivalent experience in research, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
