The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled leader to serve as the VOSH Regional Health Director. This is a full-time position based in the Central Virginia Regional Office, Henrico VA. This exciting leadership role leads a regional Occupational Health Regulatory Program for Virginia and works to educate stakeholders and enhance occupational safety practices and compliance. The position is part of a leadership team, that together, seeks to make Virginia a better place live, work, and conduct business. What you will do:
• Provide strategic leadership and implement strategies for the VOSH Health Regulatory Program.
• Provide performance management leadership and performance support for employees.
• Implement strategic initiatives, tactical plans, and establish infrastructure to ensure consistent interpretation and application of federal and state laws, regulations, and agency policies and operational procedures.
• Develop individual and organizational capabilities to remain in compliance with the requirements of the OSHA 23g Grant.
• Assess the effectiveness of regional operations, overseeing regional operations, and leading a team of Industrial Hygienists and administrative staff.
• Allocate Resources to address critical needs in support of the agencies mission.
• Conduct health informal conferences; negotiate settlement agreements with employers.
• Identify trends and patterns related to workplace injuries and illnesses.
• Support training and collaborate with the Virginia Institute of Learning and Outreach (VILO) and leverage training opportunities for staff.
• Professionally represent DOLI/VOSH in industry forums, meetings to share best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable experience in leading and developing individual and organizational capabilities of professional, clerical, and technical staff to implement vision and clearly communicate direction and drive to goal completion.
• Considerable organizational and adaptability skills with change management experience; accepts change with diplomacy and understands change principles.
• Considerable working knowledge of the principles and practices of industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, safety management systems, and best practices.
• Considerable practical experience with occupational safety and health state and federal standards.
• Considerable knowledge of and application in policy research, development, implementation, and assessment.

Additional Considerations

• Extensive leadership experience; agile, innovative, and flexible across large programs or organizations.
• Certification in the areas of industrial hygiene, occupational safety or occupational health management, industrial engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Certification in a safety or health discipline issued by a recognized organization such as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or the Board for Global EHS Credentialing, including Certified Industry Hygienist (CIH), Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist (CAIH), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar.
• Experience leading OSHA or state plan activities.
• Experience as an occupational safety and health professional in a private or public sector environment.
• Familiarity with OSHA industrial hygiene sampling techniques and occupational health exposure assessments.

Special requirements:
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to travel overnight occasionally.
• Must meet minimum duty requirements for the position as measured by the Agency’s Physical/Cognitive Checklist.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
• The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal background investigation and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.

The salary for this position will be Commensurate with Experience + Full State Benefits.
