Job Duties

The purpose of the Regional Director (RD) position is to provide regional management, supervision, and leadership to Virginia’s Department of Veterans Services (DVS) Virginia Veteran and Family Support (VVFS) program. The West RD reports to the VVFS Deputy Director and manages 9 offices and 11 personnel. The RD ensures that quality peer and family support and care coordination services are provided throughout the region in a timely and professional manner. The RD prepares and trains all regional staff under their supervision to provide outreach and direct services.

The RD conducts outreach to promote VVFS/DVS services and collaborates closely with other DVS service lines to enhance services for Military Service Members, Veterans, and their families (SMVF).

The VVFS program mission is to provide resource connections, care coordination, behavioral health and rehabilitative supports and services to Virginia’s military veterans, service members of the National Guard, Armed Forces Reserves, dependents, caregivers and family members.

Minimum Qualifications

● Demonstrated ability to motivate, train, supervise, hold accountable to established standards, manage and lead subordinates.
● Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets, contracts, and other state resources.
● Knowledge and understanding of the military services culture, lifestyle, transition challenges and reintegration needs of SMVF. Military service includes Reserve and National Guard components.
● Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and civilian and medical and behavioral healthcare services systems.
● Knowledge of human services and care coordination principles and service management practices.
● Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the business agreements necessary to protect patient privacy and sharing of patient information.
● Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to SMVF.
● Knowledge and understanding of behavioral health, physical rehabilitation, and supportive service needs of SMVF.
● Knowledge of suicide prevention/intervention strategies and state mandatory reporting
Requirements.
● Ability to understand and prioritize complex needs of veterans, service members and their families and implement regional solutions in a changing environment to create public, private and governmental support to address the identified needs.
● Ability to successfully interact with federal, state, and local government officials and public and private professional providers to ensure timely access to treatment and services for veterans and their families.
● Ability to participate in and collaborate with regional boards or public authorities addressing the needs of veterans and their families.
● Ability to compose, organize and produce a variety of complex informational materials to be used for executive and legislative branch briefings, reports, and public relations events.
● Ability to develop and deliver educational presentations and trainings to staff teams and community providers and organizations.
● Ability to present ideas and concepts in an effective manner orally and in writing.
● Extensive travel during duty hours and occasional overnight travel at government expense is required.

Additional Considerations

● Experience in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related/approved field

● Experience and/or education related to program management and staff supervision preferred

● Experience and/or education related to behavioral/rehabilitative health and supportive service needs of military and veterans preferred.

●Valid driver’s license required.

●Consideration to the combination of education and professional experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for completion of position responsibilities
