Job Description:


Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The WDS Information Generalist will play a pivotal role in attracting, evaluating and admitting prospective Workforce students to ESCC. This position will be responsible for guiding learners through the registration process, providing accurate information about programs and ensuring that registration procedures are followed efficiently and effectively. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and a commitment to promoting access to higher education. The person hired will be responsible for maintaining the overall Workforce Student Registration system, as well as working with the Director Workforce Development on the procurement of items and services necessary for the proper operation of the ESCC Workforce Development program. This will include serving as the College’s primary point of contact for the VCCS WES (Workforce Enrollment System) database; ensuring all Workforce student applications are complete and evaluated in accordance with VCCS policy; maintaining student files in a coherent and confidential manner; work with the Director Workforce Development in assessing student eligibility for and awarding Workforce financial assistance; work with Workforce Coaches in the recruitment, registration and support of Workforce students; provide support as necessary to the Student Services staff; work with the Director in the administration of Workforce grants; be responsible for purchasing items through the State procurement system (eVA); and other related duties as assigned by the Director. This is an on-campus position.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to offer comprehensive assistance to prospective Workforce students regarding program prerequisites, application protocols, available financial aid, and program selections.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries through various communication avenues such as face-to-face meetings, phone calls, emails, and virtual platforms.
  • Ability to receive, scrutinize, and process student enrollment applications, and validate application materials for completeness and accuracy, in accordance with established criteria and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain precise records confidentially, and generate reports as necessary to support data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in other departments.
  • Experience in the review, refinement and establishment of department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in applying appropriate customer service strategies when engaging with a diverse clientele and employing sound judgement to address customer-related concerns.
  • Familiarity with basic procurement and budgeting processes and principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Proficiency in using various PC-based software, including word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and communication applications.
  • Ability to function effectively both independently and as part of a team, while displaying adept problem-solving skills, adherence to deadlines, and strong organizational acumen.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an educational environment and/or administrative support position.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid
  • Career coaching/advising experience
