Job Duties

This position will oversee the Eastern Region and is responsible for travel and oversight to the entire region.

Promotes public safety and reduces recidivism by preparing inmates for success through a continuum of services and supervision, in collaboration with state and local partners, from the time of the inmate’s entry into prison through their transition and reintegration into the community.

Supervises seven Workforce Development Specialist (WDS) positions at Correctional
Institutions, Units and Work Centers and Community Corrections Alternative Programs (CCAP) in the Region. Prepares returning citizens for reentry employment by coordinating all Workforce Development Programs and Services in the region and facilitating workforce development experiences at Deerfield Correctional Complex. Serves as an agency liaison with community workforce development agencies and organizations in the region (e.g., Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), One Stops, Department of Social Services (DSS), Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Virginia's Community College System (VCCS), non-profits, special interest groups). Performs strategic planning, coordinates growth and development of all inmate employability initiatives, and collaborates with Wardens and other management to integrate WDS programs and services within Cognitive Communities and overall institutional reentry programming in the Region.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience supervising staff located at multiple sites and performing coaching as necessary. Must be able to serve as a liaison between agency personnel, management, offenders, and workforce development service providers. Experience in developing partnerships with service agencies and employers. Experience facilitating experiential learning for adults. Experience in making effective presentations to diverse audiences, including classroom participants, community agencies, other government agencies, and employers. Experience coaching others on employment, interviewing skills, resume development, job search strategies and utilizing job search tools. Possess good written and oral communication skills.

Additional Considerations

Prior experience as workforce development professional providing employability services to clients. Prior work experience in marketing, training, and project management. Must possess or be eligible to apply for Global Career Development Facilitator credential issued by the Center for Credentialing and Education (see: www.cdf-global.org) Experience administering and interpreting formal and information assessments of career interest, aptitude, and values.
