Job Description:
NOVA Workforce is seeking an experienced instructor to deliver classroom and technical training that will prepare students to successfully pass the EPA 608 Universal certification exams. This is a non-credit, 42 instructional hours course for adult learners. Must be available to teach evenings or Saturday classes. Instructor will also be responsible to proctor students’ exams.
Duties and Tasks:
- Provide hands-on instruction and practical training to prepare students for the EPA 608 Universal exams. Training should focus on exam objectives
- Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, student handouts, hands-on exercises, assessments, and training aids (classroom and lab).
- Evaluate students to ensure they are meeting learning objectives and are prepared for the certification exams.
- Assist in class scheduling and program management.
- Advises program Manager of needed supplies and materials for the class.
- Maintains a hazard free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
- Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computer for providing class presentation.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:KSA's
- Practical application of the principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems
- Proficiency in installation and service of HVACR equipment
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to teach the fundamental and advanced concepts of installing and servicing HVACR equipment
- Ability to design, supervise, and evaluate lab assignments to demonstrate student proficiency
- Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills
- Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear and engaging way
- Ability to work with groups of varying ages, skills level, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work individually as well as on a team
- Must be a self-starter and innovative thinker
Minimum Work Experience:
- Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise
- Must hold active EPA 608 Universal certification
- Two (2) years’ experience in the field of HVAC/R
- One (1) years’ experience teaching
Additional Considerations:
- Associates degree
- Previous experience in an educational or training setting
- Journeyman HVAC license
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Experience in curriculum design and development
- Experience teaching “boot camp” style training courses
- Prior experience teaching in higher education
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
