Description for Candidates:

  • Support the VDOT statewide social media manager with content creation and planning, customer response and engagement, graphic design and video production, advertising, social listening, analytics and strategy for VDOT’s statewide organic and paid social media content.

    How you will contribute:
  • Analytics and Strategy : Monitor social performance metrics to measure sentiment, campaign performance, optimize social strategy and identify growth opportunities.
  • Content Creation and Planning : Develop timely, on brand and engaging content for all VDOT statewide social channels, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Nextdoor, and Reddit; use a social media management platform to schedule social content.
  • Customer Response and Engagement : Engage with audiences by responding to comments and questions on social media platforms.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and publish social media messaging during emergency response as assigned. Work with the Statewide Social Media Manager and leadership to develop social messaging on emergency, crisis and current issues.
  • Graphic Design and Video Production : Assist with the creation of accessible graphics and videos to support social media messaging and campaigns using Adobe Creative Cloud apps and Canva. Coordinate with VDOT’s Creative Services team, which includes graphics, photo and video professionals.
  • Social Media Advertising : Assist with content creation, management and moderation of social media advertising campaigns.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of creative and current on industry best practices and the latest trends in digital marketing and social media.
  • Knowledge of social media strategy, analytics and advertising.
  • Skill in developing organic and paid social media content across multiple channels and for multiple audiences.
  • Skill in editing and with familiarity with AP style guidelines.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include MS Office products.
  • Skill in using tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva to design and create graphic and video content for social media.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to manage multimedia projects.
  • Ability to organize and synthesize complex information into clear and concise content that speaks to and connects to a large, diverse audience.
  • Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call emergency communications and respond to intermittent and unexpected issues that result in work activity outside of standard work hours, on holidays, weekends or during inclement weather.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to write timely, creative and engaging content tailored to different audiences and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media accessibility.
  • Knowledge of social media archiving tools.
  • Skill in creating and managing social media advertisements.
  • Skill in creating video content for social media.
  • Skill in managing organic and paid social media campaigns, including development of content.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include MS Office products.
  • Skill in writing and editing using AP style guidelines.

  • Additional Considerations:
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Communications, Public Relations or related field.
  • Experience creating short-form video content.
  • Experience creating social media advertisements.
  • Experience with crisis communications.
  • Experience working with Meta Ads Manager and Business Suite software.
  • Proficient on Mac and PC.
  • Proven track record of success in social media and communications project management.
  • Skilled in the use of technology and social media such as Sprout Social, HootSuite, Sprinklr, Bandwatch or ArchiveSocial.
