    Job Description

The Blackwood Program in Real Estate within the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Real Estate. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing program that is looking to enhance our successes.
    The position is a tenure-track, academic-year appointment beginning August 10, 2023.
The Pamplin College of Business’ Blackwood Program in Real Estate draws on an interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty from the College of Engineering and College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Academic partners include Building Construction, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Property Management, Smart and Sustainable Cities and departments in the Pamplin College of Business.
The Real Estate curriculum provides students with broad knowledge from the initial vision of a real estate asset through disposition, and students double major or select strong minors to add depth and specialization to their education. Within Real Estate, students can choose to major in Commercial real estate, Residential real estate, or Real Estate Finance. We are looking for a faculty member with broad interest in teaching and advancing the academic program.
The real estate program started in the fall of 2013 with four first-year students and has grown to nearly 400 majors and over 150 minors. Since that time, the academic program has been growing in national recognition:
#1 Best Bachelor's in Real Estate, Bachelor's Degree Center (2022)
#3 Best Real Estate Degree Program, Great Business Schools (2020)
#4 Most Popular Real Estate Schools, College Factual (2021)
#5 Best Real Estate Bachelor's Degree, College Factual (2022)
The Blackwood family endowed the program with a $10 million gift in 2021. This academic year we are in process to become the seventh department in the Pamplin College of Business, the Blackwood Department of Real Estate. With this move we are looking for a senior, tenure-track faculty member who will participate in leading a rigorous and outstanding research program.
The successful candidate will conduct high-quality research published in leading real estate journals and other journals consistent with an excellent real estate research program. They will conduct and publish research on timely and creative topics that advance the national and international prominence of the department. Presentation of research at prominent national and international academic conferences is expected and supported.
The faculty member will teach three courses (9 credits) per year for the first three years. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in instruction and demonstrate flexibility and innovation in courses taught to support the success of the academic program.
A commitment to university, professional and industry service will complement the teaching and research responsibilities.
A deep commitment to diversity is fundamental to the appointment. Pamplin faculty, through their research, teaching, and service, contribute to the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts of the college and the Virginia Tech community. A willingness to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds is necessary.
