Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of 2nd & 3rd Shift Custodial Services this position is responsible for maintaining established standards of cleanliness and sanitation for interior spaces within assigned education and general assignment buildings across campus. Focused duties include, cleaning and disinfecting common high touch surfaces, restrooms, hallways, corridors, classrooms, stairwells, elevators, and general interior spaces. Other duties include emergency cleanup, execution of blood-borne pathogen procedures, floor and window maintenance, operating powered cleaning equipment, trash removal, collecting recycling, and replenishing supplies. This position will report equipment and building repairs and any unsafe and unusual building maintenance issues. Responsible for the care and handling of facilities supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.

This position is designated Emergency Personnel, and requires employees to report to work as needed during campus emergencies, holidays, closings, and per supervisor’s instructions.

Required Qualifications

Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents, including dilution and dispensing systems.
Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, twist, and shovel snow.
Must be able to safely and efficiently operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
Must be willing and able to learn the use of heavy floor care equipment.
Must be capable of working independently without close supervision.
Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the public and/or customer service experience.
Knowledge and experience with various cleaning methods.
Custodial/cleaning experience in an institutional, or commercial cleaning environment (such as hospitality (hotel/motel), commercial cleaning company, manufacturing, health care facilities, etc.)
Custodial/cleaning experience working in an educational environment (such as universities/college, school systems, etc.)
Previous experience operating professional cleaning equipment.

Additional Information

Emergency Personnel weather related, Emergency Personnel facilities related. Emergency Personnel health & safety related.
Normal work hours are M-F 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m, but work hours may vary to meet management and customer needs.
May work around large numbers of people especially during class change and special events Must have a valid driver's license.
May be assigned to work in different buildings to meet department needs.
Must wear employer provided uniforms as instructed by supervisor.
As situation dictates, must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
This position meets the criteria for issuance of a mobile communication device (such as radio, cellphone, Ipad, Ipod, pager, etc.). Devices issued are the responsibility of the employee and are to be returned in satisfactory condition upon separation of employment. Devices are to be used according to supervisor instruction and according to relevant policies.
Must have driver’s license check with an acceptable and safe driving record.
Must have a valid driver's license.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check and driving check.
