Job Description

The Department of Statistics at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a nine-month faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Advanced Instructor, or Senior Instructor, depending on experience, to begin in August 2025. After an initial probationary period, it is expected that this will be a stable, hard-funded position.

Primary responsibility is teaching undergraduate courses in applied statistics, theoretical statistics; there is also opportunity to teach in VT’s computational modeling and data analytics program. Department management will make specific teaching assignments each semester. Duties will include everything necessary for effective instruction. These duties will include but are not limited to: preparation of course materials, presentation of topics, grading, administrative duties with graduate teaching assistants, conducting assessment, holding office hours, and performing other activities required for effective teaching. The Statistics Department expects and supports instructor efforts to remain current in trends in statistics, statistics education and/or teaching in general through participation in workshops, trainings or meetings. Duties may also include departmental service and other duties assigned by the department head.


Required Qualifications

An MS or PhD in Statistics or a related discipline at time of appointment. Excellent communication and teaching skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching. Experience with online instruction. Experience with using statistical methods in application areas such as industry, science, or government.
