    We’re currently searching for a Triage Counselor to join our Cook Counseling Center team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you’re passionate about student mental health and center-wide operations, please keep reading.

    HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
    1) You’ll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team; a department centered on promoting student learning, development, retention, and holistic wellbeing by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success.
    2) You’ll be reporting to the Associate Director of Crisis and Triage Services, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment. 
    3) You’ll be responsible for providing direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students focused on their initial consultation and assessment, co-creating goals for services, and providing connection to services or referrals, and crisis intervention as needed.
    4) You'll provide additional services including initial consultation and assessment, individual and group counseling, psychiatric referrals, and consultation with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding student mental health concerns.
    5) You'll work with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
    6) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $63,000 - $86,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

    3) THE TEAM: The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech. The center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and has a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). We promote student learning, development, retention, and holistic wellbeing by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success. The CCC supports these efforts through psycho-educational programming, individual, group, crisis, and psychiatric services. CCC’s commitment to service also includes multidisciplinary training, consultation, advocacy, and research.

    Required Qualifications
    • The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in counseling or social work or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be licensed or licensed eligible as a licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within 1-2 years from start date of employment, depending on degree and licensure requirements.
    • Experience providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Experience and interest in collaboration with academic departments, faculty, and staff.
    • Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
    • Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills
    • Experience with outreach and educational programming, e.g., prevention programs.
    • Experience managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
    • A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
    • The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience and interest in working with college-student/young adult population
    • Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting
    • Interest and/or experience collaborating with other departments or offices on multidisciplinary teams
