Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Purpose of Position:
The Accessibility Specialist plays a key role in coordinating academic support services and accommodations for students with disabilities. This includes reviewing educational and medical documentation to assess students’ academic needs and implementing appropriate accommodations. Responsibilities include organizing notetaking services, obtaining educational materials in accessible formats (e.g., electronic, audio, Braille), facilitating adaptive testing, and providing training and technical support on assistive technology to students, faculty, and staff. Success in this role requires adaptability to new technologies and the ability to thrive in diverse environments. The ideal candidate is compassionate, well-organized, communicative, and flexible; and other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience in educational student services, particularly in supporting students with disabilities, is required.
  • Thorough understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and all relevant state and federal regulations pertaining to disability services in higher education.
  • Experience supporting diverse populations and handling sensitive and confidential situations and information.
  • Experience providing intake services and assessing individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff across diverse backgrounds.
