Job Duties

The Bristol District of VDOT is looking for professionals to fill our Accounting Specialist position!
In this position you will ensure accuracy of all financial transactions posted into Cardinal. Provide internal and external customers with financial services. Perform full range of accounting functions in accordance with GAAP, federal, state, and VDOT policies and procedures. Independently audit and perform final approval for accounts payable vouchers, research expenditures, prepare and analyze fiscal data and reports. Audit Small Purchase Credit Card statements for compliance with VDOT policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously and organizing work to meet deadlines.

• Experience communicating with internal and external customers to explain financial data in understandable terms.

• Experience with accounts payable, general ledger and accounts reconciliation.

• Knowledge and experience with GAAP.

• Ability to work independently.

• Skilled in the use of computers to include automated financial software programs.

• Skill in working with detailed numerical data

Additional Considerations

• Experience developing and delivering technical guidance on fiscal matters.

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field desired.

• Experience with accounts payable, general ledger and accounts reconciliation.

• Experience with fund accounting and governmental accounting.

• Experience with payroll processing, time entry and leave, and payroll reconciliations.
