Adjunct Instructor of Piano & Collaborative Pianist

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Division of Music seeks applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Piano and Collaborative Pianist beginning in the fall semester of 2025. This is a part-time, semesterly appointment with potential for semesterly renewal. This teaching faculty position will also involve collaborative piano duties with the UVA Wise Choral ensembles, individual voice and instrumental students, and potentially Division of Music faculty members. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with fellow Division of Music faculty to teach Applied Piano, Class Piano, and other select music courses to music majors, minors and other UVA Wise students depending on the applicant's area of expertise and Department needs.

Candidates must possess Master’s Degree or higher in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy, or Collaborative Piano (in lieu of education, candidate may possess commensurate professional experience); have excellent musical, verbal and written communication skills; should possess the ability to teach students with a wide range of musical backgrounds; should have experience with teaching class piano; should have experience with being a collaborative pianist in both ensemble and individual settings; and should be committed to the sustaining and growing the enrollment of the UVA Wise Division of Music. Preference will be given to candidates who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission and have experience with teaching, performing, and accompanying a variety of musical styles. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and work 20-25 hours per week. UVA Wise will not sponsor a work visa for this position.

Education; Master's degree or higher in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy, or Collaborative Piano (in lieu of education, candidate may possess commensurate profession experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
