Position Description – Advanced Manufacturing Lab Manager

Position Title: Advanced Manufacturing Lab Manager

Department: Division of Business, Mathematics, and Technologies

Employment type: This is a full time (non-exempt) classified role that reports to the Dean of Business, Mathematics, and Technologies

Position Purpose: Ensure quality manufacturing lab experiences for students through preparation of instructional materials for courses, coordination of manufacturing lab instruction; acting as a resource for adjunct Advanced Manufacturing faculty, maintenance, preparation and ordering of supplies and equipment, equipment maintenance, lab safety including MSDS materials and maintenance of inventory and timely disposal of waste materials, and lab instruction and student evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prep and clean up for all daytime Advanced Manufacturing courses.
  • Assist with instructional activities related to manufacturing labs.
  • Maintain inventory and purchase lab supplies for all manufacturing labs.
  • Act as a resource and support person for adjunct and full-time Advanced Manufacturing faculty.
  • Preventive maintenance and repair of manufacturing lab equipment.
  • Managing metal and chemical waste.
  • Provide manufacturing and safety guidance to capstone students working in the manufacturing labs.
  • Assist with developing equipment demonstrations.
  • Provide support to students and community members utilizing manufacturing labs and related instructional spaces.
  • Manage safety program and ensure safe operation of all equipment and material storage in manufacturing labs and related instructional spaces.
  • Assist with recruitment events and initiatives, including manufacturing lab tours and demonstrations.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field (must be completed before start date).
  • Ability to operate all manufacturing lab equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA lab protective equipment use and EPA waste disposal requirements or willingness to understand them.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the comprehensive mission of community colleges.
Additional Considerations:

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Experience developing online courses in a college setting.
  • Knowledge of computer aid design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of DC electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of G-code programming language
  • Knowledge of Python programming language.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing and related applications.
  • Commitment to collegiality and collaboration in support of institutional or organizational goals.
