Virginia Tech maintains multiple contracts with a variety of vendors and service providers including campus bookstores, retail services, snack and drink vending services, laundry services, copier management services, The Inn at Virginia Tech, and other support services. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Contractual Services, the Field Operations Technician serves as a de facto project manager, responsible for coordinating the work of contractors, communicating the status of projects, and completing special projects that impact and involve multiple divisions on campus. In this capacity, the incumbent coordinates the operational activities and events related to these contractual operations on campus. Examples include, but are not limited to, the physical space renovations of vending locations and special events on campus that include or impact a contracted campus vendor. The Technician also collaborates with the Senior Manager of Contractual Services to maintain asset inventory control, key control, licensing compliance, service requests, ensuring maintenance and repair of buildings and vehicles. The incumbent physically inspects laundry rooms and vending locations for cleanliness, stocking, and general proper operation of equipment, maintains an inventory log of machines and placement of machines, and collaborates with stakeholders to provide an efficient experience for customers.
The incumbent also performs other duties as requested; takes initiative to support a healthy work environment; strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct; exemplifies the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and supports the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
Required Qualifications
Education • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the combination of a high school degree (or equivalent) with significant professional experience in business or related field.
Experience • Applying project management skills and principles. • Applying field operation oversight skills and principles. • Overseeing the fulfillment of contract terms
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Understanding of retail environments, including business, marketing, planning, tax, accounting and budgeting. • Knowledge of data collection, analysis, and interpretation. • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws/regulations to the workplace. • Effective verbal and written communications skills, including interpersonal relations, and making presentations. • Skill in building and maintaining collaborative business relationships. • Strong planning and organizational skills. • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. • Ability to effectively prioritize job needs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge and/or experience in higher education retail market environments. • Experience overseeing construction or renovation projects. • Experience managing projects and teams effectively.
