Job Duties

Position leads the planning process, implementation and continual improvement of evidence-based practices for inmate recidivism reduction through all aspects of the facility, working in conjunction with Unit department heads to ensure the principles of EBP are implemented in all operations. Ensures training is provided so that all staff at the facility understand their role in EBP. Supervises Unit Managers to ensure that inmate housing areas operate in accordance with established security procedures and with the cognitive community or other population management protocol consistent with the institution’s treatment mission. Supervises the Institutional Program Manager to ensure that inmate classification processes and therapeutic programming and services are delivered to inmates in accordance with their evidence-based design in support of the institution’s reentry mission. Partners with the Chief of Security to ensure EBP practices support safety and security and involve security staff roles appropriately. Serves as an Administrative Duty Officer managing all institutional operations on a rotational basis. Develops and establishes professional relationships with internal and external audiences to enhance information networks, assist inmates and ensure smooth facility operation. Promotes the development of self and staff through training.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Extensive working knowledge of VADOC operational policies, procedures and practices in the institutional setting. Demonstrated ability to complete reports and/or write policies and procedures. Extensive working knowledge of inmate classification processes and evidence-based principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate inmates programs and services. Knowledge of the Virginia Adult Reentry Initiative (VARI), and VADOC models for unit management, cognitive community and evidence-based treatment.

Additional Considerations

Advance knowledge in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Corrections supervisory experience or experience in a lead role implementing an initiative in corrections. Working knowledge of unit management, cognitive community or inmate reentry programs and services.
