The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a part-time (wage) Community Criminal Justice Board Consultant in Richmond, Virginia. This position works within the Division of Programs and Services, most specifically with the Adult Justice Programs section and the Office of Safer Communities, supporting Community Criminal Justice Boards throughout the Commonwealth. Hours are expected to average 25-29 hours per week. Though most work is expected to occur during normal business hours, there could be occasional need for the incumbent to attend meetings held after 5:00 pm. This position will be required to travel throughout the Commonwealth. The incumbent must live in Virginia, preferably in a central location, and be able to report to the DCJS office as needed.

What you will do:
● Provide technical assistance to local Community Criminal Justice Boards (CCJBs) and key staff throughout the Commonwealth related to codified responsibilities and potential additional coordinating contributions, including those related to grants, strategic planning, and local efforts addressing violence reduction.
● Coordinate with local governments and agencies as needed to ensure CCJBs are structured as required by the Code of Virginia.
● Conduct assessments of CCJBs to determine needs.
● Identify engagement and sustainability strategies for CCJBs for both DCJS and local government utilization.
● Meet with localities, CCJB chairpersons, and key staff to discuss needs and options.
● Facilitate, attend, and make presentations to CCJB meetings as requested.
● Working with other division staff, identify, develop, and provide trainings for CCJBs.
● Identify and develop grant applications and technical assistance requests to meet the needs of DCJS as related to CCJBs.
● Identify and develop information and materials helpful to CCJBs for DCJS website.
● Working with other division staff, develop a communication strategy for CCJB members.

Minimum Qualifications

What the ideal candidate must possess:

● Demonstrated experience working with and providing technical assistance to Virginia Community Criminal Justice Boards (CCJBs) or Criminal Justice Coordinating Councils.
● Working understanding of local criminal justice responsibilities in Virginia.
● Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings of diverse stakeholders.
● Working knowledge of strategic planning.
● Ability to build relationships and collaborations across various disciplines and between local, state, federal, and other agencies.
● Ability to identify and research criminal justice trends as necessary for providing CCJB guidance.
● Ability to travel throughout the Commonwealth.
● The incumbent must live in Virginia, preferably in a central location, and be able to report to the DCJS office as needed.
● Ability to think strategically and cross culturally, and to independently implement new initiatives and projects.
● Ability to articulate, both orally and in written form, clear and concise program objectives and goals and summarize achievements of programs in reports and other documents as requested.     
● Documented experience working as an active, contributing team member, as well as an independent and self-motivated employee.
● Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines, handle multiple assignments, changing priorities, and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments.

● Experience working in a local government criminal justice agency.
● Experience working in a state criminal justice planning agency.
● Experience working with grants.
● Working knowledge of state procurement processes.
● Working knowledge of national technical assistance providers and application processes.

The anticipated starting salary range is $35 to $45 per hour, up to 29 hours per week (1500 hours per wage year).
