Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Taxation is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Corporate Tax Auditor to join our team. This role performs both routine and complex audit assignments to ensure compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s tax laws. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical abilities, sound judgment, and a commitment to providing high quality service to the citizens and businesses of Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine and complex corporate tax audits to ensure fair, accurate, and equitable compliance with Virginia tax laws and regulations.
Perform in depth analysis of state and federal corporate income tax returns and related financial data.
Verify the accuracy and completeness of tax return information and identify discrepancies in accordance with state requirements.
Prepare clear, concise audit reports and correspondence using Microsoft Office tools.
Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and supporting taxpayers in understanding audit results.
Work independently while effectively prioritizing tasks and managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
This position is fully remote and requires occasional travel to Richmond
The anticipated hiring salary is commensurate with experience, up to $65,000.

Minimum Qualifications
• Proven ability to work independently with experience prioritizing duties and handling multiple tasks
• Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel to produce reports and correspondence
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Knowledge, skill and/or ability in the field of accounting and/or auditing
• Knowledge/understanding of Federal and State Corporation income tax returns
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interpret tax laws, deductions, credits, residency rules, and compliance requirements
Additional Considerations
• Professional experience with accounting and audit terminology, techniques, and formal theory of accounting
• Professional experience in preparing and/or reviewing Federal and State Corporation income tax return
• Advanced knowledge, skill and ability in areas such as accounting, auditing, finance, or other related fields
