Job Duties
Applicants hired into this position who are not currently VA state government employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement.
Applicants hired into this position who are currently working for VA state government are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with signature of an agreement for an additional 12-months of service. Current Virginia State Police employees working in a Dispatcher function are not eligible for a retention bonus.
About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Supervisor at our Division 4 Headquarters in Wytheville, Virginia. The successful candidate will oversee the Field Division’s Communication Center, ensuring efficient, continuous operations in compliance with Department policies, National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) standards, and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations; supervise emergency dispatch staff; manage schedules; conduct performance evaluations; develop cross-training plans and desk procedures to support operational continuity; oversee training; and ensure proper use of communications equipment. The role also serves as a liaison with 23 Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) Program agencies and federal law enforcement partners, ensuring timely and professional information exchange. May require rotating shifts as essential personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
•Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures and rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications equipment and operations; of the Division geographical area and radio codes; and of supervisory practices and principles. •Working knowledge of Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD), National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN), and other relevant databases. •Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications and operating CAD equipment. •Ability to prepare reports and operation manuals; to be organized, detailed oriented, handle multiple responsibilities and act appropriately in emergency situations; to interpret policies and develop procedures; to supervise subordinates while providing leadership and maintaining a good working relationship; to provide training and formal instruction, exercising good judgement under stress; to analyze information and communicate effectively; orally and in writing in English; and to interact with the co-workers, general public, and others contacted internally and externally in the course of work. •Must have experience working in a Communications Center. •Must have experience as a police/emergency service dispatcher. •Graduation from high school or equivalent. •Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
