Job Duties

The Office of Early Childhood Analytics and Technology is seeking a qualified candidate to increase data capacity and provide research and analytic support for the essential operations of the Division of Early Childhood Care and Education, and Virginia’s statewide goal of supporting a unified birth-to-five early childhood system. This position will work on various data analysis and research projects to support the administration of public ECCE programs, data systems development, data collection, and other key Division initiatives. This position will use analytic and data visualization software to clean, retrieve, and transform data, create tables and figures for report and presentations, and gain insights from large datasets across various statewide databases, state agencies, and partner organizations to support an early childhood system that expands quality and access to early childhood programs. This position will interpret and complete data analysis to support the strategic goals of the Division of Early Childhood Care and Education and the Commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications

▪ Experience building, analyzing, merging, and working with multiple datasets and databases that measure different elements at varying levels (i.e., child data, classroom data, etc.) in support of systemic continuous improvement.
▪ Demonstrated ability to clean large datasets efficiently and effectively.
▪ Demonstrated ability to synthesize and make sense of large sets of data and to identify unique and meaningful insights for general and targeted audiences.
▪ Experience interpreting data analysis or data trends in an early childhood, education, or public sector context.
▪ Experience in data visualization.
▪ Experience in systematically evaluating datasets for errors and implementing corrections efficiently.
▪ Experience producing recommendations related to data analysis, data coordination and data management is preferred.
▪ Skill in preparing and maintaining spreadsheets related to project management and grant oversight,
▪ Familiarity with early childhood programs and best practices is preferred
▪ Ability to manage multiple assignments with critical deadlines and to work collaboratively in a team situation,
▪ Ability to understand SQL
▪ Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and online data collection systems.

Additional Considerations

▪ Graduation from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in education, human development, data analytics, information technology, statistics or related area preferred.
▪ Demonstrated experience with SQL is preferred.
▪ Experience in R, SQL, Tableau, analytics, research, and statistics preferred.
