Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of HVAC Technician / Trades Technician III (00047) in Facilities Management and Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing maintenance and repair work on a variety of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment essential to the operation of Longwood University. This includes replacement of existing equipment or installation of new equipment as the need may rise. Will be responsible for responding to call back request during non-work hours for support of the University as needed. This position is considered to be emergency personnel, and must report to work or be called in due to inclement weather, in the case of emergency, staff shortage, etc.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Perform maintenance or replacement of equipment related to HVAC
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and university regulations and policies while prioritizing the health of students, faculty, and staff
• Ensure all systems operate at the correct times for energy conservation and comfort
• Repair refrigeration equipment including ice machines, walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and reach-in boxes, ensuring safety standards are met for both electrical and refrigeration work
• Monitor temperatures to ensure food storage meets specifications for product
• Perform troubleshooting, repair, and installation of variable frequency drives
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Valid driver's license
• EPA certified refrigeration license preferred
• Knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, as well as variable frequency drives (VFDs)
• Ability to work in a team environment and while displaying effective communication skills
• Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred
• Ability to safely handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb and work from elevated workstations
• Ability to perform tasks for extended periods which may require reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling objects
• Extensive experience or technical training in commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment repair with associated controls
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
• Must have working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or HVAC control systems
• Computer knowledge with ability to operate within the university's Computerized Maintenance Management Control system (CMMS)
• Journeyman-level certification or documentation of journeyman-level experience preferred
• Master's level HVAC certification desirable
